Start Up Unit

Overview

This unit, a series of four lessons, is used to start a new Backyard Bible Club.  The lessons are designed to teach children, many of which may have never before heard the gospel in a way they could understand, a basic knowledge of Jesus Christ.  These lessons teach children that God loves them so much that He sent His son and that is why you are there.  The lessons are based on John 3:16 and teach that God loves us, that we are all special, and that we need to have faith in God.

Lesson #1 — “For God So Loved the World”

God created us and sent his son to die for us. - John 3:16

This lesson is a simple overview of who God is and how much He loves us all. It teaches that God created the world and everything in it.  It also teaches about His son who came to Earth and died for our sins so that anyone who believes in Him can have eternal life in heaven.  The children will learn that it is because of Jesus’ death on the cross that people are there teaching them.

Lesson #2 — “You Are Special”

Jesus feeds 5,000 people. - Matt 14:15-21; Mk 6:35-44; Lk 9:12-17; John 6:5-14

This lesson teaches that God considers every person to be special and that He loves all people no matter who they are or how they act.  The Bible story is about when Jesus fed 5,000 people who were hungry by using one boy’s five loaves of bread and two fish.  God used one little boy to feed all the people and can use each child because we are all special.

Lesson #3 — “Faith”

Jesus walks on water. - Matt. 14:22-33; Mk 6:45-52; John 6:17-21

This lesson teaches that faith is “believing in something that you cannot see.”  The children will learn that the reason this ministry is called “House of Faith” is because Christians have faith in God even though He cannot be seen.  The Bible story is about Jesus walking on water and how Peter had faith in Jesus to also step out of the boat.  The children will be challenged to have faith like Peter and believe in God and His son Jesus.
