Starting at: $35.00

"Helping children to know, understand, and handle correctly God’s Word – the Holy Bible on both a “practical” and “power for living level.”
Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of Truth.”2 Timothy 2:15 (NIV)

Overview

Through this unit the children will learn about GOD’S WORD - THE HOLY BIBLE and how to know, understand, and handle it correctly on two levels.  The first level is a “practical” one such as book, chapter, verse, and Old and New Testaments.  The second is a “power for living” level, such as how to live out Biblical principles in their lives.  The Bible reveals many truths about itself such as that it is God-breathed, Prophetic, Penetrating, Powerful, and it Must Be Held On To in order to be effective.  The Bible also teaches us that we should all do our best to know and understand his Word (2 Tim 2:15).  This five lesson unit tells the stories of key Biblical figures from the New Testament and experiences they had with the Word of God.  Each lesson highlights a different corresponding truth about the Bible as revealed through their experience and points the children to that same principle as important for their lives.  The unit ends with a lesson about the importance of holding on to the teachings in God’s Word and they are encouraged to hold on to GOD’S WORD – THE HOLY BIBLE themselves as they grow to become the men and women of God he has called them to be.

Life Point: God is very proud of me when I try hard to know and understand His Word - The Holy Bible.

Lesson #1 — "The Bible is God-breathed"

Paul teaches after his conversion.  Acts 9:1-22

Paul was the man who wrote a lot of the Bible in the New Testament.  Although he had been taught much about God and his Word, at first he did not believe in Jesus and treated badly those who did.  After Jesus spoke to him and he became a Christian he used his knowledge and understanding of God’s Word to teach people about Jesus wherever he went.  Paul knew the Bible actually was God-breathed and he understood GOD’S WORD – THE HOLY BIBLE so well that he was able to use it for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training people in righteousness.
Lesson Theme Verse:  All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.  2 Timothy 3:16-17 NIV

Lesson #2 — “The Bible is Powerful”

Philip and the Ethiopian Eunuch.  Acts 8:26-40

Philip was another person in the Bible who was a man of God.  Philip was a disciple of, and believer in, Jesus, but not one of the Twelve Disciples.  When Philip taught from a part of the Bible and explained the Good News about Jesus to an Ethiopian Official, the man became a believer in Jesus and asked to be baptized.  Philip showed how GOD’S WORD – THE HOLY BIBLE is so Powerful that it can be used to teach people to become believers in Jesus when they trust in and obey what it says.
Lesson Theme Verse: I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile. Romans 1:16 NIV

Lesson #3 — “The Bible is Penetrating”

Peter and his sermon on the day of Pentecost. Acts 1:4-8, 2:1-13

Peter was one of Jesus’ twelve disciples and the one who gave the first teaching after Jesus had died on the cross, rose from the dead, and then ascended up to heaven.  When God’s Holy Spirit came on the disciples, the people of the city were confused and amazed, and others even teased them saying they were drunk.  Peter stood up and taught them from God’s Word.  By the time he was finished those same people were cut to the heart and begged Peter and the disciples to tell them what to do.  Peter’s teaching from GOD’S WORD – THE HOLY BIBLE was able to Penetrate and get straight to their hearts
Lesson Theme Verse: For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.  Nothing in all creation is hidden from God's sight everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account. Hebrews 4:12-13 NIV

Lesson #4 — “The Bible is Prophetic”

Luke in writing his Gospel and Acts. Luke 1:1-4, Acts 1:1, 16:6-10.

Luke was another man who wrote a large part of the Bible in the New Testament.  He was actually a doctor who was a friend and traveling companion of Paul.  Luke talked with people who heard and saw Jesus and the very first Christians in person and he also saw with his own eyes things that happened with Paul when he was with him.  GOD’S WORD – THE HOLY BIBLE was Prophetic as the Holy Spirit (God’s Spirit) guided Luke as he wrote down these stories, in the form of letters to a friend.
Lesson Theme Verse: Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet's own interpretation.  For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit. 2 Peter 1:20-21 NIV

Lesson #5 — “The Bible Must be Held on to”

Some stop following Jesus but the 12 stay . John 6:22-68.

There was a time when Jesus was teaching, that many of his disciples actually stopped following him because they did not believe or understand what he was saying.  Jesus asked his Twelve disciples if they were going to leave him also.  Peter spoke for them all and said that they could not leave him because his words were the words of eternal life and that they believed and knew he was the Son of God.  Peter knew that Jesus words, and so therefore, GOD’S WORD – THE HOLY BIBLE, must be held on to.
Lesson Theme Verse: To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, "If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples.  Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free."  John 8:31-32 NIV
During Jesus ministry on earth there were those who said they believed and for a time followed him, but then later left him.  There are many people who say they believe in Jesus, but Jesus himself said that only those who hold on to his words and teachings are really his true disciples.
It’s about believing and staying in that belief – it’s about trusting what he says is true and keeping hold of that what he says
It’s about abiding – staying connected – to his word – more than just the Bible.  It is hearing his voice and following that – it is the Bible but it’s also more.
